The Clear Take on Water and Wastewater Today

Imagine a Day Without Water? I’d rather not.

Chad MeyerThursday, October 19 was recognized as Imagine a Day Without Water, a National Day of Action that brought together a wide variety of stakeholders to highlight how water is essential, invaluable and in need of consistent investment. When I read that description, three words stood out to me: “action” and “continuous investment.” Those words resonate to me as a professional in the water and wastewater industry, and I’m sure they’re meaningful for many of you, as well. Our profession requires daily action to maintain the safety and reliability of our communities’ water supplies. It requires a lot of hard work. It also requires continuous investment, through time, commitment and of course, funding. One example of continuous investment, resulting in a lot of action and hard work on our part, is the federal Lead and Copper Rule and its required compliance by October 2024. Many states have established grant funding to assist communities with the extensive work it could take to reach compliance. At PeopleService, we’ve been heavily involved in the monitoring of this legislation and the resulting partnerships with communities to meet requirements. Action results in investment, which results in action – and so the cycle goes in our line of work. It’s a grind, for sure, but we welcome the challenge because a day without water should only be a figment of our imagination.
