The Significance of the Christmas Tree
It is said that the tradition of putting Christmas trees in homes started during the winter solstice to signify the coming of Spring. Other lore says the evergreen branches signify life. Personally, I like the smell of pine and the tradition of it all. The National Christmas tree in the White House this year is a 19’ Fraser Fir. The Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center, New York, overlooking the skating rink is a 75’ tall Norway Spruce complete with 50,000 lights. And, in Humboldt, Nebraska, there is a humble little tree in the park that dons some pretty special PeopleService “ornaments.” We were pleased to participate in decorating the city’s tree with water droplet and pooh – yes pooh – ornaments. After all, this signifies what we do best and if this tiny, if a bit unconventional, tree decor brings smiles to faces, we’ve done our job in that way, too.
